How Do You Check If You Need To Raise Credit Score

Does anyone know where you can go to get your credit score? I have heard so many people talking about it, but I am not even sure what my score is at this time. I do hope that it is not bad. I know that I have not done anything that I would think of as negative, so it must be good. If not I guess I will be trying to Raise Credit Score before I apply for a loan. I have never even had a credit card, but I was told that it was just as bad not to have a card as to be delinquent. Is that true?
