Treatments of Sesamoiditis
January 16th, 2010 by admin
At the base of the big toe there are two small bones under the joint and that is what we called sesamoids. They act like little knee caps in that they act as pulleys for the tendons that act across the joint. It is not unusual that overuse can effect in injury to these small bones and structures around them as they take the major share of the weight under the big toe. This condition commonly called sesamoiditis. This condition is more common in sports that pivot on the ball of the foot. Padding to offload the area is the main approach for treatment of sesamoiditis. For a long term of treatment orthotics is needed. And if all this treatment is not responding in sesamoditis then surgery will be performed.
