Need Some Help with Drywall Ceiling Repair

I just bought my first house. It is very exciting, but there is also a lot that needs to get done. I am a bit unsure of where to begin, having never owned my own home before. I am thinking about starting up and working my way down. I first need some help with drywall ceiling repair. Several of the upstairs bedrooms have old and cracked ceilings from past water damage. I know that I do not want to have to replace all of the ceilings and would like to at least try to just repair them and see how that goes.
