The Lateral Wedging for Knee osteoarthritis
February 10th, 2010 by admin
A condition which is common in older persons is the Arthritis of the knee and is very disabling as the knee is a major weight bearing joint used for walking and getting around. Loosing weight is the most helpful way to help the pain and slow the progression, but this is not always the most practical. Using physical therapy to strengthen the muscles around the knee is the other way to help treat the said condition. Lateral wedging in the shoe has been shown to change the alignment at the knee and may help with symptoms. Often drugs are used to help with pain relief. If all else fails the last resort is knee replacement surgery.
